Police: Fla. man used cloned credit, debit cards to buy gas

A Florida man has been jailed and charged with fraud and other counts following an incident in Carbon County.

State police at Lehighton said on Saturday at 8:56 a.m. troopers were dispatched to the Sunoco Service Station located at 1583 Route 903 in Penn Forest Township for a report of a suspect with a white Ford 250 pickup at the diesel fuel island.

Troopers said Lazaro Felipe Sentmanat-Chile, 24, of Miami, pumped 148 gallons of diesel fuel into tanks located in the bed of the truck. The suspect purchased the fuel in seven transactions using seven different credit/debit cards. The value of the fuel was $652. Troopers said in recent months they have been investigating incidents of card skimming and access device fraud where the suspects are purchasing diesel fuel using cloned credit and debit cards. Sentmanat-Chile was taken into custody.

The investigation revealed that Sentmanat-Chile possessed 31 Walmart gift cards that were actually cloned debit and credit cards, drawn upon accounts from several different banks.

Sentmanat-Chile was charged with seven counts each of access device fraud, felony 3; and misdemeanor counts of theft by deception, receiving stolen property and possession of instruments of crime. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, of Lansford, and was committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning unable to post $250,000 straight cash bail.
