Pleasant Valley receives $65K in grants

Pleasant Valley School District receives two grants worth $65,000.

Superintendent James Konrad told the school board during their meeting Thursday that the district has received a $25,000 grant for equipment to increase the school district’s security cameras and systems.

The second grant is through the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Office for Safe Schools. The grant will be given over two years with $20,000 the first year and another $20,000 the second year for school police officers, Konrad said. It is the maximum amount allowed.

“As you are aware, our top priority is to ensure safe schools, and we commend Chief (Lynn) Courtright and her team and congratulate them in the outstanding work they have done in securing grant money for school safety funding,” he said.

Konrad also told the directors that he held four parent/guardian engagement meetings for each school building plus four Zoom meetings for each building. His purpose was “to build positive relationships with the parents in our district and discuss our successes and challenges as we work toward an incredible future at Pleasant Valley.”

All of the meetings were held in January, but Konrad plans to follow up with parents in May. He wants to “maintain communication through quarterly meetings next school year, so we have constant communication with our families and gain insight and perspective into ways that we can best educate the students at PV.”

Konrad also plans to hold meetings with the teachers and staff this week.

“I will be meeting with all staff in each building for a collaborative, meaningful discussion regarding successes, challenges and future ambitions,” he said.

Konrad said he wants to hold these staff meetings once a month until the end of the school year.
