The Lehigh Valley Railroad announced today it will terminate all passenger service at midnight Friday.
C.A. Major, president, said in New York that while the Interstate Commerce Commission’s ruling gave the road full privilege to halt passenger operations immediately, “We’ve decided to continue through Friday. This would give our patrons a chance to readjust.”
Among the passenger trains to be eliminated are No. 29, the John Wilkes, New York, to Lehighton, and the No. 26, the John Wilkes between Lehighton and New York, as well as the shuttle trains between Jim Thorpe and Hazleton.
It will be the first time in 106 years that Lehigh Valley passenger trains will not serve this area.
