Palmerton festival: IvoryBlu performs wide variety of music
From current and classic rock favorites, to blues, jazz standards, and finely crafted originals they play a wide variety of music.
Expect that to continue when IvoryBlu performs from 3:30-4:15 p.m. Sunday in the bandstand at this year’s Palmerton Community Festival.
The band is a musical duo featuring Frank Hall on piano, and vocalist Resa Hall, who have performed at many venues in the Carbon County and Lehigh Valley area over the past several years.
Those include the NazJazz Festival, the Allentown Arts Park, the Palmerton Community Festival, Blue Ridge Cable’s Dream Come True Telethon, PJ Whelihan’s at Platz’s, the One Ten Tavern in Palmerton, Bonnie and Clyde’s in Lehighton, the Blue Shamrock Golf Club, and many private engagements.
Frank and Resa have been playing music together since they met over 40 years ago.
Frank is currently the music director at Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Palmerton, and is an accomplished pianist and songwriter. Resa is a strong vocalist, and has been the musical director for the Palmerton High School Drama Club, providing the musical direction for “Guys and Dolls,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “The Sound of Music,” “The Lion King Jr.,” “Mamma Mia!” “The Little Mermaid Jr.” and for the upcoming “Aladdin Jr.” production. Resa is currently a voice teacher and vocal coach at Off the Charts Music School in Palmerton, and is the director of the Palmerton Area High School Chorus.
Resa noted that after playing music together for so long, she and her husband, Frank, have acquired “a huge repertoire of songs.”
“As IvoryBlu, we play our favorites, mostly in the rock, blues and jazz genres,” Resa said. “We always like when someone says, “I love that song; I had totally forgotten about it.”
As for the band’s favorite songs to perform, Resa said there are “too many to list, with not enough time to play them all.”
She said the band’s most requested songs are “Hush” by Deep Purple, and “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane.
Resa explained why she and Frank enjoy performing at the festival.
“It is great to play for a hometown audience,” she said. “We have so many friends here, and it is great to see all of their faces while they enjoy our set.”
