Pleasant Valley HR director resigns

The Pleasant Valley School Board approved the resignation of the director of human resources at their meeting on Thursday.

Jessica Tomon, the now former director of Human Resources for the Pleasant Valley School District, had signed a three-year contract with the district on July 16, 2020, with a salary of $100,000 per year. Her term was supposed to end on July 31, 2023.

Superintendent James Konrad said he can’t discuss personnel issues, but said, “I can tell you that since I’ve arrived in the district, we have not had a human resources director and a team of administrators have been handling the day-to-day functions of human resources. We will continue to do that until we find a highly qualified individual.”

Konrad began his term as superintendent in December.

The school board did not make any comment about Tomon’s departure during their meeting.

A tentative vacancy notice for the human resources position was posted on Jan. 18 and was set to expire on Jan. 28.

Konrad said the school district has posted the position, and they anticipate receiving a high number of applicants, especially those with a background in education.

Prior to coming to the Pleasant Valley School District, Tomon was a human resource business partner with a company called Essity in Philadelphia. Before that, she had 11 years of human resources experience in the corporate world.

In addition to Tomon, there were two other resignations: Dawn Cottee, food service employee, PVES; and Randy Smale, maintenance technician.

Other personnel items include:

• Hiring of support staff - Richard Courtright, maintenance technician replacing Andrew Krock, due to change of assignment; and Duane Peechatka, maintenance technician replacing Justin Micklos. Both at $18.90 per hour.

• Hiring of support staff substitutes - David Probert, substitute custodian, $10.38 per hour and $9.15 per hour when working as a courier.

• Intramural advisors - Christopher Enderes, junior high boys basketball, PVIS and PVMS

• New club/activity - Susan Rasely Philipps, The Acceptance Project/Bridge USA, PVHS
