Police arrest man who hit patrol car, escaped in Polk Township

State police have announced they have arrested a man who escaped after he hit a police vehicle with his car.

Tyler Deihl, 27, has been taken to the Monroe County Correctional Facility.

On Thursday police were attempting to take the 27-year-old into custody on felony arrest warrants on Lower Middle Creek Road in Polk Township when he used his vehicle to strike a state police vehicle multiple times. Police fired but Deihl escaped. The vehicle was found abandoned in a secluded location.

A joint investigation is being conducted between the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office and the police regarding the use of deadly force. There is no evidence that anyone was injured, police said.

Court records show Deihl, who has an address listed as Kunkletown, is charged with five counts of aggravated assault, and one count each of escape, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, resisting arrest and flight to avoid apprehension.

He was to have a preliminary hearing Thursday in Magisterial District Danielle Travagline’s office on charges of use or possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while operating privileges suspended or revoked and not using headlights for a March 6, 2021, incident in Tunkhannock Township but it was continued to Feb. 17.
