“Late for a Date” was the topic of the oration of Marilee Subacz, who won top honors Saturday during the annual oratorical contest sponsored by the Carbon-East Schuylkill District 5 CYO.

The dissertation dealing with the plight of the mother of a paralyzed daughter was delivered with great feeling, according to judges who declared the eighth-grade pupil at St. Jerome’s Parochial School the winning orator.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Subacz of 304 Market St., Tamaqua.

Second place went to Jean Farrell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Farrell, 353 N. Fourth St., Lehighton, a student at SS. Peter and Paul School in that town.
