Tamaqua’s boys’ basketball team surged past Mount Carmel in overtime on Monday.
Other winners included the Jim Thorpe, Pleasant Valley and Marian girls’ basketball teams, while Tamaqua posted a sweep in swimming action.

Tamaqua-Mt. Carmel
Tamaqua rallied in overtime to come out on top with a 73-71 nonleague win over Mount Carmel.
The Blue Raiders (6-10 overall; 3-5 SL) used an 8-4 run in the overtime period to escape with a victory.
Connor Dillon sparked the Blue Raiders with a game-high 27 points, while teammates Nathan Gregoire and Steven Hoffman chipped in with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Varano led the Tornadoes with a team-high 18 points.

Kutztown Area turned back Northwestern for a 55-45 nonleague win.
After trailing 34-20 at the half to the Cougars (6-8 overall), the Tigers were able to outscore the visitors 34-21 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to go ahead.
Cayden Fitch and Dylan Witkowski both recorded 11 points in the setback for the Tigers (8-9), while Cade Christopher added 10 points.
Xavier Goodman led the Cougars with 24 points.

Jim Thorpe rolled to a 68-28 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.
The Olympians started strong with a 24-2 run over the Blue Raiders in the opening quarter as they took a 43-10 lead into the half.
Olivia Smelas led the Olympians (13-1, 8-0) with a game-high 17 points, while Leila Hurley followed right behind with 16. Skyler Searfoss and Leah Snisky both ended up scoring 10.
Trenyce Wingler finished with a Blue Raiders’ (6-8, 1-7) high with 13 points, while McKenna Meckes contributed eight.

The Blue Raiders edged the Hurricanes 92-86 on the girls’ side, while the visitors swam away with a 97-43 in the boys’ competition.
Jathan Krall (200, 500 free), Jack Tharp (50 free, 100 fly) and Stephen Behun (100 free, 100 breast) all had wins in the boys’ meet for Tamaqua.
Isabella Jones (200 free), Lexi Buchala (100 fly), Rylee Wenzel (100 free) and Gabby Blasko (500 free) all posted first-place finishes for the Blue Raiders in the girls’ meet.
