District paying for signal

Lehighton Area School District approved a memorandum of understanding Monday night establishing conditions under which the signal will be constructed and maintained.

"The district is going to pay for the signal and provide $10,000 for future maintenance," district solicitor Bill Schwab said. "After that, the district is out of it, and the borough takes over the light."The light was necessitated by construction of a K-5 elementary center adjacent to the district's current high school and athletic stadium.Lehighton Superintendent Jonathan Cleaver said Traffic Planning and Design Inc., an engineering consultant for the district, would work with the borough to design the specifications for the light. The district had no timeline for when the light would be constructed.
