Connor Rodgers, left, receives a plaque at the Jim Thorpe Borough Council meeting Thursday recognizing his efforts as the borough’s first junior councilman. Presenting Rodgers the honor is Stephanie Drake, Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs government affairs and communications liaison. Rodgers was a junior councilman for two-and-a-half years before going off to college. He was active in borough discussions, led efforts to clean up tires dumped over the side of Flagstaff Mountain and consistently volunteered at Jim Thorpe’s biannual recycling events. “Connor is sorely missed and we hope someone really picks up that role that he initiated and got going here in Jim Thorpe,” Council President Greg Strubinger said. Any Jim Thorpe youth interested in becoming a junior council member can contact the borough at 570-325-3025. JARRAD HEDES/TIMES NEWS
