Tamaqua seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Aug. 29 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 51 members in attendance. The vice president opened the meeting with the reading “Our Precious Savior.”
Dolly Kamant was given a warm welcome back by the group, and Melody Weicker was added to the sick list.
The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA. The next meeting will be held on Sept. 5 and will include provided refreshments.
Andreas VFW
VFW Post 5069 of Andreas will meet Sept. 11 at West Penn Community Park at 7 p.m. to discuss the upcoming dance.
The Post banquet will be held on Sept. 14 at Kneppers Inn at 6 p.m. Members, auxiliary and one guest are invited. Reservations must be made by Sept. 6. Checks should be made out the VFW Post 5069 and mailed to 2595 Summer Valley Road, New Ringgold, PA 17960. Cost is $20 per person.
A dance is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 28, with music being provided by the Cramer Brothers. For more information and cost, call 570-386-5525.
Eastern Schuylkill Democratic Club
The Eastern Schuylkill Democratic Club met on Aug. 26 the Tamaqua Elks, President Karen Davison conducted the business meeting.
Upcoming events were discussed, including the need for volunteers for Octoberfest, the Halloween parade, the general election in November and the annual Christmas party.
Memberships continue to be accepted for 2019. Please contact membership chairwoman Joan Deitrick at 570-668-4679. All are welcome to attend meetings, which are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 23.
Baby food ministry
Saint Vincent de Paul of Saint John XXIII Baby Food Ministry registration is underway.
Free baby food will be given for babies from birth to 1 year at the Church Hall, 307 Pine St., Tamaqua, on the third Saturday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. by appointment only.
Registration is required at least three days before distribution online at tamaquasvdp@outlook.com or by phone at 570-225-8620 from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday.
This is open to residents of the Tamaqua Area School District, or members of Saint John XXIII Parish.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. 6 p.m. service to Celebrate 20 years of Ministry.
Activities for the week include: Sept. 9, 5:30 p.m. Celebrate Recovery Women’s Step Study and 6:30 p.m. Celebrate Recovery; Sept. 11, 7 p.m. Worship practice, 8 p.m. TYM Remix staff meeting; Sept. 12, 1 p.m. service at Hometown Nursing and Rehab Center, 6:30 p.m. Communitywide prayer event.
Soup social
Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St., will hold an outreach soup social on Sept. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. This is a free event to share soup and fellowship.
Participants are asked to use the lower parking lot entrance to the church social hall.
