Palmerton has taken the next step to improve parking issues just south of the borough’s main thoroughfare.
Borough council on a 6-0 vote Thursday agreed to advertise the first reading of the no parking ordinance. Councilman Randy Gursky was absent.
The ordinance would call for no parking along the east side of Sixth Street from Delaware Avenue to Lehigh Avenue, and along the west side of the Sixth Street from Alley E northward 60 feet toward Delaware Avenue.
However, Councilwoman Holly Hausman-Sell said the stop intersection portion of the proposed ordinance was removed.
Previously, the committee authorized an ordinance to install a stop sign at Fifth and Franklin Avenue for traffic heading south.
However, after some public input to the committee, it was decided to eliminate the stop sign proposal.
As a result, the borough will look at other ideas to slow traffic through that area.
Hausman-Sell also briefly revisited the matter of ways to curb the speed of vehicles as they exit Route 248 ramp onto Delaware Avenue.
At this time, the borough is looking for ideas on how best to curb speeding in that area.
