Pleasant Valley picked up its first victory of the season in impressive fashion, rolling to an easy victory over East Stroudsburg North on Friday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

ES North-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley hit the win column in a big way, rolling to an easy victory over East Stroudsburg North, 61-37, in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference contest.

Ashton Smith led four Bears (1-14) in double figures with 17 points. Noah Mitchell (13), Andrius Harrison-Gaddist (12) and Sebastian Piszcotowski (11) also contributed in the victory.

Isa Abu and Jacob Miller had 10 points apiece for the Timberwolves (2-14).

Marian-Mahanoy Area

A big fourth quarter lifted Mahanoy Area to a 51-40 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

The teams were tied at 34-34 after three periods of play, but the Golden Bear (9-9, 5-3) defense held Marian to just six fourth quarter points to pull away for the win.

Tyler Fritz led the Colts (8-10, 4-6) with 25 points.

For Mahanoy Area, which had 10 three-point field goals and just five two-point field goals in the game, Allen Feliciano was high man with 14 points.

Nathan Burke scored a game-high 22 points for the Spartans (5-11), who trailed 49-46 after three quarters. Zackary Stokes added 16 points.

Rene Figueroa had 19 points for the Panthers (12-5). Trey Turner scored 16 points, and Erick Marchorro tallied 10.

Northwestern placed four player sin double figures and rolled to a 63-38 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Sage Christopher led the Tigers (16-3, 11-3) with 18 points. Emily Sekerak scored 14 points and Alexandra Lister and Sydney Sevrain added 10 apiece.

Jada Saeger had a huge game in a losing effort for the Bulldogs (7-12, 5-9), scoring 32 of her team’s 38 points.

WRESTLING

Coal Cracker Tournament (at Panther Valley)

A total of 15 Times News area wrestlers advanced to the quarterfinals after the first night of action at the 10th annual Coal Cracker Tournament. Tamaqua and Jim Thorpe led the way with four apiece.

Gabe Heaney (113), Austin Williams (182), Ethan Mordaunt (220) and Derek Hunter (285) all advanced for the Olympians. Aaron Coccio (132), Nate Wickersham (170), Carson Krell (182) and Bronson Strouse (285) moved on for the Raiders.

Northwestern’s Harrison Bernhard (138), Ryan Haas (160) and Tyler Watson (182) punched their tickets to the quarters, as did Northern Lehigh’s Trevor Amorim (132) and Damion Rodriguez (170), and Palmerton’s Lucas Christman (138) and Shawn Gardner (145).

The 38-team event will resume today at 10 a.m. with quarterfinals and third-round consolation matches. The third-, fifth- and seventh-place bouts are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., with the final set to start at 5 p.m.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALL

9TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Pottsville rolled past Tamaqua, 46-22.

Snowed led the Tide with 12 points.

Parker Coleman’s nine points paced the Raiders (6-8).

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Lehighton posted a 53-39 win over Tamaqua.

Lutz and Crum scored 12 points apiece for the Indians.

Brady Sherry had a game-high 17 points for the Raiders. Joe Coleman added 13 points.

Tamaqua-Marian

Marian edged Tamaqua, 37-34.

Mason Gibson’s 14 points were a team-high for the Colts.

Brady Sherry had 11 points, while Joe Coleman added 10, for the Raiders.

8TH GRADE

Weatherly-Shenandoah

Weatherly defeated Shenandoah, 45-37.

Ian McLaurin had 18 points and Jacob Parker added 15 for the Wreckers.

7TH GRADE

Weatherly-Shenandoah

Weatherly topped Shenandoah, 30-22.

Jack Nemshick scored 11 points to lead the Wreckers. Ish Zuberi chipped in nine points.
