A Luzerne County man was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday evening and the driver fled the scene and is being sought.

State police at Hazleton said the incident was reported at 11:12 p.m. along Interstate 81 in Butler Township.

Troopers were dispatched to Exit 151B, southbound, Drums, for a person lying on the roadway.

On scene, troopers found Dionys Ramirez Moya, 24, of Hazleton. He had been struck by a vehicle and was determined to be deceased. The driver of the striking vehicle had fled the scene.

Evidence at the scene indicates the vehicle that struck the victim is likely a semitractor-trailer. Evidence further indicates that the vehicle traveled onto I-80 westbound after the crash occurred.
