Magisterial district court boundaries could change

Five of the seven magisterial district court boundaries could change in Schuylkill County.

The proposed changes are the results of balancing those workloads in the districts, President Judge William E. Baldwin said in a release Monday.

“After each census the court must determine whether the number and boundaries of the magisterial district courts within our county continue to be appropriate for the efficient functioning of those courts,” Baldwin said.

Population changes, the number and nature of cases and how those numbers compare to other fourth class counties and among the magisterial courts are factors considered, he said.

While the number of magisterial district courts will not alter, he said the workloads within those courts is not appropriately balanced.

Therefore, the following changes are proposed:

Cases in McAdoo Borough and Kline Township will be held out of the Frackville office instead of Tamaqua; those in Delano Township will be heard in Frackville instead of Shenandoah; cases originating in Wayne Township will be heard in Tremont instead of Orwigsburg.

The public is invited to comment no later than Dec. 8 by sending correspondence to the Schuylkill County Court Administrator, 401 N. Second St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
