Defense: Kane's prosecution 'vindictive,' 'extraordinary'

NORRISTOWN. (AP) - Lawyers for Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane say she was unfairly targeted over a grand jury leak by "vindictive" political rivals.

Kane's lawyers have filed a motion Wednesday to dismiss her criminal leak case based on "selective and vindictive prosecution."Kane is leaving office this year after having her law license suspended because of the charges.The first-term Democrat is accused of leaking secret grand jury material to a newspaper to embarrass rivals and lying about it under oath.She has pleaded not guilty.Defense lawyers in a motion Wednesday say "leaks of grand jury material are not uncommon" but prosecutions are "extraordinary."Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, and state Sen. John Rafferty, a Republican, won Tuesday's primaries and will square off in November to succeed Kane.
