10,000 quarters

Maison Allen, a young adult, spoke at Salem-St. Paul’s intergenerational Sunday school class and the congregation about the needs of the homeless in the area and throughout the Lehigh Valley.

She works for Community Action, an agency that works to help everyone have access to economic opportunity by providing shelter and food to people in need.

The church will have a 10,000 quarters jar in place as worshippers come and the church family hopes to raise 10,000 quarters to support Community Action. Worshippers are asked to deposit their spare change in the jar through November but paper money is also accepted.

Poppy time

The American Legion sponsoring Pick a Poppy remembrance events continue.

One can pick a poppy today from 1 to 5 p.m. at ShopRite in Brodheadsville; Friday, from 1 to 5 p.m., ESSA Bank, in Brodheadsville; and Saturday, from 1 to 5 p.m., at ShopRite.

Hoagie reminder

People who ordered hoagies from the Polk Township Fire Company need to pick them up between 4 and 6 p.m. today.

Crust pickup

Those who ordered pie crusts from Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville are reminded that orders can be picked up from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday or from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Legion meeting

The West End Memorial American Legion Post 927 is having its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

School Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

OES meeting

The Monroe Chapter of the OES is meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rimrock Masonic Center on Rimrock Drive, Stroudsburg.

Seniors menu

Seniors attending the Chestnuthill Senior Center are reminded they must order their respective lunch by 11 a.m. a day ahead with the center manager, Donna Riedel, who can be reached at 570-242-6770.

The center, located at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

There is a suggested donation for the lunch.

This coming Friday the meal is stuffed shells and next Wednesday it is barbecued chicken.

Soup sale set

Effort UMC has begun its November soup sale as of Monday. It will continue until Nov. 17. Being offered is chili. Pickup is set for Nov. 21, after each service. Those services are at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

Fall bazaar

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is hosting its fall bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

It includes a rummage sale and a bake sale and menu items such as barbecue, hot dogs, filling and gravy, soups like chicken and rice, vegetable beef, ham and beef, and cheddar broccoli.

All food will be takeout only, no tables will be available for eating in.

The event is sponsored by Layman’s Fellowship.

The West End Park and Open Space Commission will have a craft/gift air at the Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715-Brodheadsville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Free dog training

Dog trainer David J. Henon will be giving a free training session at 11 a.m. Saturday at the West End Regional Dog Park, 3551 Merwine Hilltop Road.

Bring your dog to go over basic commands and how it can help solve many behavior issues.

Also, learn about the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen and how it can help get discounts on a homeowner’s policy and how the dog can become a therapy dog.

Dogs must be human and dog friendly. Aggression can be discussed with David one on one.

All Saints Sunday

Effort UMC will remember all who have gone ahead to eternal life this Sunday.

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, returns to weekly worship inside with masks and distancing, plus Facebook live and videos.

There are two services this Sunday, All Saints Sunday, at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

The later service will include Holy Communion with Remembrance of those baptized and those who joined the heavenly host this past year.

Pantry craft fair

The Thrift Shop from the Community Center in Eldred Township is hosting a craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Donna Deihl notes it is a way to start holiday shopping early.

All Saints Day

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will recognize All Saints who have died since last November at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service. A candle will be lit for each one as their name is read and attendees will reflect upon their lives and legacies. Holy Communion will be celebrated.

Christian education is available at 9 a.m.

The following week, St. Peter’s will observe Native American Sunday, with Catherine Sufrich presenting during the Inspirational Moments.

Block shoot

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is hosting a block shoot and meat raffle on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m., at 122 Gun Club Road, Saylorsburg.

Twelve-gauge shotgun only.

Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet group will again do stitches of care as the members meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday for the church’s Knit & Crochet group.

The regular monthly meeting of Operation: Touch of Home will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Post home in Gilbert.
