Area DUI cases
Police reported on the following driving under the influence cases:
Fern Ridge
• A 50-year-old Effort man is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after an incident at 4:16 p.m. Sept. 20 at the intersection of Route 209 and Shafer Drive in Chestnuthill Township.
A trooper conducted a welfare check at the time and learned the driver was under the influence.
He was processed and released with the charges being filed in Magisterial District Court 43-4-04.
• A traffic stop made by state police resulted in a 26-year-old Effort man being arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drugs and paraphernalia.
Police stopped the 2020 Toyota Rav 4 at 1:04 a.m. Oct. 18 at the intersection of Route 715 and Yoke Terrace in Township and found the driver to be under the influence of a controlled substance.
Police found drugs and paraphernalia when they searched the car.
The driver was transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, for processing.
• A 23-year-old Jim Thorpe man is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after police responded to a report of an erratic driver.
It happened at 6:38 p.m. Sept. 16 at the intersection of routes 115 and 940 in Tobyhanna Township.
Police said they were informed of an erratic driver in a red Chrysler sedan traveling into the Wawa store parking lot and later initiated a traffic stop that resulted in the charges.
• A 32-year-old Blakeslee man is facing charges of driving under the influence and drug possession charges after a traffic stop conducted by state police at the Fern Ridge barracks.
Police said they stopped the 2002 Chevrolet after the driver committed several traffic offenses and learned the operator was under the influence.
He was taken to the Monroe County DUI Center for further testing.
Lehighton
• State police responded to an incident at 9:19 a.m. Oct. 20 at the intersection of Interchange Road and Polk Township Road in Polk Township. They suspected the driver of the vehicle was driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
Police said appropriate charges of the driver of the 2001 Dodge Chrysler will be filed.
• Police said the driver of a vehicle who was found passed out behind the wheel was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol and requested to submit to a breath test. It happened at 11:01 a.m. Oct. 9 on Heiney Lane, Polk Township, when the man was found behind the wheel of a 2006 Kia Sportage.
• A Jim Thorpe man is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after an incident at 12:50 a.m. Oct. 30 along the Maury Road in Franklin Township.
Troopers said the 50-year-old man was driving a 2006 Nissan Frontier north on the Maury Road when it lost its functionality. Police said the driver attempted to operate the vehicle in reverse and it traveled off the roadway and struck a mailbox post. The man was uninjured but police said he was suspected to be driving under the influence. His name was not released.
Other cases
• A Walnutport driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a one-vehicle crash t on Sept. 21 at 4:41 p.m. along Seemsville Road in East Allen Township, Northampton County.
State police at Bethlehem said Marcus Kuronya, 24, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra at an unsafe speed while intoxicated southbound. The vehicle left the road and crashed into a ditch. The car rolled over into a corn field where it came to rest on its roof.
• A Slatington driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following an incident that occurred on Oct. 28 at 1:34 a.m. along Lehigh Street at S. 12th St., in Allentown.
State police at Fogelsville said troopers conducted a traffic stop of a 2009 Honda Civic driven by Ricard Lemus Pocasangre, 29. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol, troopers said.
