State police at Fern Ridge - fraud cases

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks are investigating several theft and fraud incidents.

• Someone used a Brodheadsville woman’s credit card to make an online purchase.

The 34-year-old resident reported to police at 2:51 p.m. Aug. 12 that the charge of $285.55 showed up on her Citi Master Card that had been stolen from her.

• A 42-year-old Effort woman is the victim of a scam. Police said they were called to North Rocky Mountain Drive, Chestnuthill Township for the theft incident.

Police said they were told between July 11 and 16 an unknown person scammed the victim out of $500 worth of Bitcoin.

• Police are investigating a theft by deception, credit/ATM card case.

A 47-year-old woman from Altemose Drive, Chestnuthill Township, reported at 7:14 p.m. Oct. 13 that someone fraudulently used her credit card information to purchase $70 worth of merchandise.

• A 69-year-old Effort woman reported her personal information was fraudulently used by an unknown person to file an unemployment compensation claim. She reported the incident to police and returned the checks she received to the state.

The incident was reported at 4:39 p.m. Oct. 15. The woman told police the claim was apparently approved because checks were mailed to her residence. Police said because there are no leads to he investigation the case has been closed.
