A Tamaqua man pleaded guilty last week to simple assault, resisting arrest and institutional vandalism Monday in Schuylkill County court.
Charles Cunningham, 50, admitted he assaulted a state trooper who came to his home in Delano Dec. 21 for a report of him drunk and screaming in the street. Prosecutors withdrew two charges of aggravated assault and three charges of simple assault. President Judge William Baldwin sentenced Cunningham to 24 months probation.
When police responded, he pushed the trooper, hit another and resisted arrest, charging documents state.
Cunningham was taken to the State Police at Frackville barracks where he said he was going kill the troopers. He later wrapped his body around a bench and kicked a wall, causing three large holes.
“I’m going to Eric Frein this barracks and then kill your families. I’m going to shoot you both right between the eyes,” documents show.
He was scheduled to go to trial this month.
