American Legion Post 927 Auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. today at the Legion Post home in Gilbert.

Nature impressions

Today is the last day to call the Monroe County Conservation District to preregister for a class on printing with leaves, flowers and other objects which allows one to create intricate patterns and works of art.

The class will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.

It will entail a short walk to collect some natural materials, and then head inside to start creating. One can then design a tote bag, greeting cards and more.

There is a charge to cover the cost of materials.

Ordering deadline

Thursday is the ordering deadline for Monroe County Conservation District’s wild bird seed sale from Aspen. Pickup is Oct. 23.

Obtain a complete order form by calling the Environmental Education Center at 570-629-3061, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., most Saturdays. One can also download the order form from the website: www.mcconservation.org.

WELL meeting

The West End Little League is holding its Board of Directors meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park building.

The meeting that is open to the public is next Thursday at the same time, same place.

Positive messages

The Pleasant Valley Middle School is holding Positive Message dress down days this Friday and next Friday.

Staff and students are invited to wear jeans if they have a positive message on their shirt.

Jeans must be free of holes, rips or tears.

Two-day fall sale

A fall rummage, soup and bake sale will be held at Middlecreek Christian Church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

There is a bag sale every day as well as homemade soups by the quart, and many fresh-baked goods, including the church’s apple dumplings.

Hot dogs and drinks will also be for sale.

All proceeds help support the church’s benevolence fund, helping those who are hurting.

The CDC guidelines, as they apply at the time of the sale, will be followed.

Bingo

The West End Park & Open Space Commission will be having a bingo playing session beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville with doors opening at 6 p.m.

There will be door prizes, specials, refreshments and more.

Pantry open

The West End Pantry in Kunkletown will have a distribution from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday.

Garlic planting

From the Garden of Giving comes word that the planting of garlic will take place this weekend and again on Nov. 1.

The last week of the month will be dedicated to apples. Many volunteers will be needed to help with picking this fruit. This month, lawns will still need mowing, and someone to wield a weed whacker would be welcome. Equipment will be provided to all helpers.

The board is in great need of people to fill four positions to ensure that the organization can continue its successful programs. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month, at 6:30 p.m., at the ReMax building on Route 115 in Effort.

Flea market held

An autumn flea market is scheduled for Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg.

The church will offer a food table with homebaked goods and lunch fare.

Post cleanup

It’s the week for the monthly cleanup at the American Legion Post 927 home in Gilbert this Saturday.

The jobs vary and even the smallest task completed will make a difference.

The cleanup begins at 9 a.m.

Soccer challenge

Boys and girls, ages 9 to 14, are invited to the soccer challenge being held at the Pleasant Valley Elementary School with coordination from the West End Soccer League on Saturday.

Families are asked to bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate.

The council-level challenge takes place at 11 a.m. The district level takes place at 1 p.m.

Ham dinner ahead

Salem-St. Paul Church, Kresgeville, is having a ham takeout dinner from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Those who preordered ham dinners are reminded to pick them up between 4 and 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The church will hold a praise service at 8:45 a.m. Sunday and a parking lot service at 10:45 a.m. to be on Facebook Live.

Cancellation

Operation Touch of Home has announced that the group’s dinner/dance on Saturday has been canceled. Anyone who paid for ticket(s) will receive a full refund.

The raffle is still on with the winning tickets being pulled on Saturday. Anyone still interested in purchasing raffle tickets is asked to reach out to OTOH or see any OTOH member.

Soup sale set

Broccoli and cheese as well as chicken and sausage gumbo are the soups being offered at Effort UMC through Oct. 20, the final ordering date.

Pickup date is Oct. 24.

Joint church fun

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, youth and families, have been invited by Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church youth to join them at Mazezilla at Klingel’s Farm in Saylorsburg from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday for a time of fun and fellowship.

Harvest Home set

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, will celebrate Harvest Home Sunday, the first Sunday the congregation will be back in the sanctuary. The service begins at 9 a.m.

The classrooms will be open for anyone who wants to social distance.

Worshippers can also listen to the service on the radio from inside their car at FM 105.5 or continue to shelter at home and worship online.

Many best practices will be in place.

Members and friends are asked to bring donations of food and place them on the table up on the front left side of the chancel. The donations will be collected for two weeks then split up and be given to PVEN and the West End Food Pantry.

Pilots breakfast

The pilots of EAA chapter 839 are holding one more pancake breakfast at Pegasus Airpark, 222 Hickory Lane, Saylorsburg, on Sunday, rain or shine. The hours are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The menu is pancakes, sausage links, and pastries, with coffee and orange juice. Children under age 5 eat at no charge.

The pilots are also offering youth ages 8 to 17 free Young Eagles plane rides, with face painting and a fall hayride for everyone, depending on weather.

10,000 boxes

Mac is Back refers to collecting boxes of macaroni and cheese at the PV Middle School and the PV High School in conjunction with each other to benefit the local food pantry.

Last year the schools collected 10,000 boxes districtwide.

What will the total be this year when the collection ends the end of October?

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School is also collecting macaroni and cheese to benefit the West End Food pantry.

Prayer shawls

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl ministry folks will ply their collective needles on Tuesday.

Meeting reminder

The Chestnuthill Township supervisors meeting for Tuesday has been canceled due to a work session and the Nov. 2 meeting is canceled due to it being Election Day.

A regular meeting will be held on Nov. 16.

Special program

Monroe County Seniors meeting at the Chestnuthill Senior Center in Brodheadsville can stop by at the Center at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville on Oct. 22 to learn about playing games for mental well-being.

These games have an emphasis on kindness and well-being and last about an hour.

It will be presented by Rachael Wydra, BSN, RN with the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
