HONESDALE (AP) - The attorney for a man accused of having let an unlicensed teenager drive a sport utility vehicle that crashed in northeastern Pennsylvania last summer, killing three other teens, is seeking dismissal of the most serious charges against his client.

A motion filed in Wayne County Court on behalf of Michael Ware, 54, of Scarsdale, N.Y., asks a judge to dismiss counts of involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment and four of six counts of reckless endangerment, the Bucks County Courier Times (http://bit.ly/1GU5AJx ) reported.

Defense attorney Robert Reno argues that prosecutors haven't proven that his client knew that five other people would be in the SUV and also haven't demonstrated that the deaths were a "direct result" of his client's conduct.

A hearing on the motion is scheduled Tuesday, with jury selection for the trial scheduled to begin July 13.

The SUV flipped over Aug. 30 in Paupack Township, killing 15-year-old Council Rock High School sophomores Ryan Lesher, Shamus Digney and Cullen Keffer. Three other students were hurt.

The teenage driver charged as a juvenile acknowledged responsibility in homicide by vehicle counts in an adjudication hearing and was placed on indefinite probation last month. She was also ordered to do 300 hours of community service and write letters of apology as well as a 2,000-word essay on the impact of the accident.
