Schuylkill hires interim tax claim assistant director

The Schuylkill County Tax Claim office is a topic that will not seem to go away.

At Wednesday’s commissioners meeting, they voted for the creation of interim tax claim assistant director. Deborah Dasch was hired for the position at a salary of $58,341. She had been a clerical supervisor in the department.

Commissioner Gary Hess was the only commissioner to vote no.

“This is not against the person moving into the position,” he said, but the position.

Hess said before creating the role “I believe a determination should be made for the length of the time that this position will be held for because of the things that are out there on this. Also especially because of the pending litigation that’s been going on for well over a year now that hasn’t been resolved, so a decision should be made before any of this is changed.”

Chairman Barron “Boots” Hetherington said he respected his opinion, but the tax office must continue to function.

“We have to run the courthouse,” he said.

Denise McGinley-Gerchak’s title as of September was the assistant director of tax claim.

The tax claim and tax assessment offices were restructured, a move Hess previously voted against.
