Carbon fair hosts festival; event opens Friday at WE fairgrounds

Families in the mood for some fall fun should plan to attend the second annual Carbon County Harvest Festival in the West End.

The event will be held from 4-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.

Parking is free, and the event will be held rain or shine. There is a $5 admission fee for everyone 6 and older.

There will be entertainment by The Mudflaps, with shows at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. Friday; The Nashville Music Company at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday; and Steel Creek at 3, 5, and 7 p.m. Sunday.

On Sunday, there will be a junk car race at 3 p.m. (additional charge applies), followed by a children’s bicycle giveaway at 6 p.m. (winner must be present).

In addition, there will also be weekend activities such as a Kidsfest tent with pumpkin painting and crafts; kids adventure area with rides, bounce houses and game (additional charge applies); The Market Place with crafters and displays; a basket auction; a food court with ethnic food and more; and chain saw woodcarving shows daily.

Sponsors include Fred Reinhard; Country Harvest; Rapa Law Office; P.C. Re/Max Real Estate; Pam Gothard, Realtor; Tom Zimmerman, Zimmerman’s Dairy; Bowmanstown Diner; Bruce Breiner Concrete; and state Rep. Doyle Heffley.

Masks and social distancing are required, and the event will adhere to other Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, according to Carbon County Fair Board President Robert Silliman.

“The weather forecast looks incredible,” Silliman said. “It’s actually festival weather; warm during day, and evenings are cooling down just like a typical fall day.”

Silliman noted last year’s inaugural event went so well that the board of directors jumped at the opportunity to hold the event again this year.

“We had such a success last season, we could not not do it,” he said. “Hopefully people will have the same drive to (come out) again this year.”

Silliman said the event will essentially follow the Carbon County Fair’s template of excellent food, terrific entertainment and fun activities for kids.

“We urge everybody to come out and have fun,” he said. “It’s what it’s all about.”
