Local roundup: Results from Sept. 8
It was a solid day of scholastic sports action for area teams, with four area programs posting multiple wins on Wednesday.
Lehighton (girls soccer, golf), Northwestern (girls soccer, volleyball) and Pleasant Valley (girls soccer, volleyball) all posted victories.
Elsewhere, the Palmerton golf, and Marian and Jim Thorpe volleyball teams also earned wins.
GIRLS SOCCER
Lehighton-Nativity
Three second-half goals sparked Lehighton to a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over host Nativity.
After trailing 2-1 at half, the Indians rallied to secure a memorable win for head coach Carl Wolter, handing him his first coaching victory with the program.
Abby Meckes got the Indians on the board in the first half, while Charli McHugh led the second-half charge with two goals and an assist. Brittney Bartasavage added the other score.
Yelina Horn and Ryleigh Walker both were credited with an assist, while Alyssa Myers grabbed 16 saves in the win.
So. Lehigh-Northwestern
Northwestern blanked Southern Lehigh for a 2-0 Colonial League win.
Sophia Motolese accounted for both of the Tigers’ goals, while Olivia Motolese and Kate Edgar both were credited with assists.
Naomi Glassberg preserved the shutout victory with four saves.
ES North-Pleasant Valley
Five different players scored as Pleasant Valley cruised to a 7-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg North.
Aryn Stivala sparked the Bears’ with a hat-trick, while Ella Muir followed with a goal and two assists.
Alexa Weaver (one goal, one assist), Aliyah Williams (one goal, one assist), Mya Manigo (goal), Autumn Castro (assist) and Madison Fava (assist) all contributed in the victory.
Sam Merklin finished with five saves to secure the shutout.
Pottsville-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe pushed two-time reigning Schuylkill League champion Pottsville to the limit, but the Tide went on to escape with a 2-1 league win.
Ava Goodman accounted for both Tides goals, both in the first half.
Mackenzie Yuhas knotted the game at 1-1 for the Olympians, 35 seconds after Goodman scored the first goal.
Olivia Rosenberger kept the Olympians within reach, posting a second-half shutout. Rosenberger finished with six saves.
Tamaqua-Pine Grove
Viktorya Luckenbach’s two second-half goals helped Pine Grove pull away with a 3-0 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.
The Cardinals held onto a 1-0 lead at half thanks to a Mia Jefferson’s unassisted score.
Blue Raiders’ keeper Zoe Seltzer posted 10 saves, while her counterpart, Taylor Ott, grabbed the shutout thanks to three saves.

Tamaqua-Pottsville
Pottsville defeated Tamaqua for a 6-1.
The No. 1 doubles’ tandem of Sabrina Pratt and Lesslie Martinez posted the Blue Raiders’ lone team point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Gwen Hamilton and Alyssa Sherrif.
