A woman was injured Sunday afternoon in a crash in Mahoning Township.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. along Lower Nis Hollow Road.

The woman was traveling east when she drove into the rear of a car also traveling east. Her SUV traveled to the right, hitting an embankment causing the unit to roll into its side trapping the driver.

Members of the Mahoning Valley fire company first removed the windshield then the roof to extricate the woman. The victim was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics. Mahoning Township police are investigating the incident.
