Local roundup: Results from Sept. 3
The Palmerton boys and girls soccer teams both opened the regular season with victories Friday.
Elsewhere, Jim Thorpe boys soccer, Northern Lehigh field hockey and Northwestern girls soccer also recorded wins.
BOYS SOCCER
Palmerton-Weatherly
Palmerton handed head coach Antonio Orlando his first win with the program thanks to a 6-0 non-league win over Weatherly.
A year after going without a victory, the Bombers opened this season with a triumph as AJ Borger and CJ Kern both scored two goals apiece in the win. Riley Fallon (two assists) and Noah Marks also scored.
Aiden Wentz and Ray Heimbach combined for 15 saves in the shutout win.

Northern Lehigh
Jim Thorpe opened the regular season with a bang, posting a 7-0 non-league victory over Northern Lehigh.
Aiden Clements and Dawson Meckes sparked the Olympians’ attack, as both finished with two goals apiece. Kieran Mele, Ryan Monahan and Noah Geiser also scored in the win.
Ethan Kunkle grabbed 12 saves, while counterpart, Jacob Geiser, recorded two saves.
FIELD HOCKEY
Salisbury-
Northern Lehigh
Addison Cieri’s goal was all Northern Lehigh needed to secure a 1-0 Colonial League win over Salisbury.
Gabby Myster was credited with the assist on what turned out to be the game-winning goal for the Bulldogs.
Kendall Heiney earned the shutout with eight saves on opening day.
GIRLS SOCCER
Palmerton-Whitehall
Brianna Moore’s two goals sparked Palmerton to an opening day 4-2 non-league victory over Whitehall.
Beth Morgan and Ella Baumgardt also added scores for the Bombers, while Nataly Walters, Emma Martinez and Sam Perloni all were credited with assists.
Emma Snyder posted four saves in the victory.
Northwestern-
Blue Mountain
Northwestern defeated Blue Mountain for a 1-0 in non-league action.
