Local woman to compete on TV show again

The singing ex-waitress and former Tamaqua resident is expected to compete again Tuesday before a national television audience.

Samantha Johnson, 26, will compete in round two on "America's Got Talent," set to broadcast 8 p.m. Tuesday.Johnson was featured before a television audience of more than 10 million on June 30, belting out the tune "A Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin.Johnson's performance earned a standing ovation from judges.She is expected to perform a different tune for the second level of competition.Johnson's mother, Denise Smulligan, lives in Summit Hill.For several years, Johnson lived in Tamaqua with her grandmother, Gloria Smulligan, and worked as a waitress at Vonz Restaurant in the Tamaqua train station.Local audiences can follow Johnson's journey through the talent competition by watching "America's Got Talent" on NBC.
