The marvelous, rapid growth of the Albrightsville Fire Company was capsulized Saturday during a special program in which a new 1990 pumper-tanker was dedicated.
Charles Getz, a Kidder Township supervisor, recalled the birth of the department in 1976, saying the first piece of equipment was a 1947 International that was a gift from the Lake Harmony Fire Company.
The truck dedicated yesterday was purchased new from the Pierce Corporation for $250,000.
Getz said at the present time the township contributes $70,000 annually to the three fire companies in the township.
Other speakers at the event were Carbon County Commissioner Albert U. Koch, county Administrator Mortimer Smedley and Patrick McGinley of Jim Thorpe, a state-certified firefighting instructor.
