New warehouse approved on Route 940 in Kidder Twp.

A 922,000-square-foot warehouse building should be under construction in 2020 if all goes to plan.

On Dec. 4, Kidder Township’s Planning Commission gave conditional approval for the project. It now moves ahead to Kidder supervisors for their approval.

The developers are getting their other permits together so that all can be ready when construction season starts next year.

The site, on 284 acres of Blue Ridge Real Estate land on the south side of Route 940, is just east of the former High Elevations restaurant.

The warehouse building, with parking to accommodate nearly 300 employees, will be built just off of Route 940. It has tractor-trailer parking on both the Route 940 side and the south sides, plus an overflow lot for extra trailers.

The site will be buffered by landscaping including local vegetation, pine trees, rhododendron and the like.

The warehouse would have an on-lot well, be connected to Blue Ridge’s sewer system, and to the UGI gas line.

Ample hydrants are designed into the proposal, including along the outside of the trailer parking lots north and south of the building.

The driveway in the property will be near level to Route 940, while the building will, for the most part, be lower than the road.

The property’s landscape design will have ponds to hold water runoff from the parking lots and building’s roof to protect the high quality stream at the western edge of the property.

Trees will be cleared off the northeast side of the property, about 80 acres, during the winter, and the remaining 200-plus acres will be preserved.

Developer Exeter Properties also hopes that a second, smaller warehouse can be built on 78 acres of land on the north side of Route 940 in the future to house another tenant.

The intersection with Route 940 for the driveway into this first project will be built with accommodation to the north side plot to provide access there for that future development.
