Tornado watch in effect for region

A tornado watch is in effect for the region through 8 p.m. tonight.

Heavy rainfall associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred will move into the area after 5 p.m. and continue through evening. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected with locally higher amounts possible. This may lead to areas of flash flooding.

While rounds of rain will be widespread, some areas may see heavy downpours, which could lead to rapid onset of locally flooded roadways along with small creeks and streams.

Motorists should watch for ponding on roadways and flooding in poor drainage areas while traveling.
