The Tamaqua Area School District is reviewing a $24.8 million preliminary budget for the 2007-08 fiscal year that is projecting a deficit of $877,861.

The budget already includes a proposed 1.41 mill real estate tax increase, which is not enough to cover the deficit without using the district's reserves, according to business manager Connie Ligenza.
