A roof restoration and skylight replacement project at the Carbon County Correctional Facility was approved Thursday by the county commissioners.
The commissioners awarded a bid totaling over $1 million to an Ohio firm for the project.
The contract was awarded to TREMCO Roofing and Building Maintenance of Beachwood, Ohio, at a cost of $1,039,664.06.
Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said the money is budgeted.
“We’ve been working on this for a long time,” said Commissioner Rocky Ahner.
He said, “We had many details we needed to be verified with Tremco that took a few months. The bottom line was that they held the price. In today’s market, this is unbelievable.”
The work on the project is expected to begin in September and take about six weeks to complete.
The project has been under consideration since February of last year.
Initially, TREMCO did an evaluation on the roof at a cost of $3,867. At that time, it was determined that restoration of the roof could occur rather than full replacement.
A complete replacement would cost twice as much money.
