It may come as somewhat of a surprise to Carbon County motorists, but within the confines of their county they have a total of 259.37 miles of state highways on which to drive.

Where is all this mileage located in the county? A check with the Harrisburg Bureau of the State Department of Highways shows the county is one of 27 counties in the state in which all state highways mileage is listed as “improved,” as opposed to the remaining counties which are classified as having “unimproved” highways.

The department lists 22.48 miles as being located in the townships of the county. The remaining 30.89 miles of state highways in Carbon are found in the boroughs of the county.
