The 42nd annual Northeastern Pa. American Cancer Telethon features remotes broadcasts from five locations this year and stories from area residents and families touched by the disease. The telethon airs from Penn’s Peak today and Sunday, noon to midnight both days, featuring a wide range of talent from the area.

The ACS Telethon is usually aired in April but the COVID-19 pandemic has forced some changes the past two years.

The telethon can be seen on Blue Ridge Cable’s channel 13; in Pottsville on Comcast channel 15; in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric channel 900; in Tamaqua and Hazleton on Service Electric channel 90.

Lehigh Valley remote: Mike Kelly will host six remotes from the Lehigh Valley Zoom between noon and 3 p.m. Saturday with guests, including medical professionals and families touched by cancer.

Pottsville remote: Lori Kane hosts six remote from the Yuengling museum and brewery area between 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday. She will be interviewing Pottsville businesspeople and school district staff.

Coaldale remote: Jason Demarco will be talking to guests at a viewing party at the Coaldale American Legion (5-6 p.m.).

Dickson City (Viewmont Mall) remote: Chelsea Strub will interview area personalities and businesspeople during six remotes from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Downtown Stroudsburg remote: Gary Smith will host six remotes with area personalities and businesspeople as guests from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Saturday evening will feature several cancer fighter interviews along with a special luminaria service (8:30 to 9:30 p.m.) in the Penn’s Peak parking lot. Luminaria can be purchased online at www.cancertelethon.org or at Penn’s Peak prior to the ceremony.

On Sunday evening, five area residents whose lives have been touched by cancer will receive the telethon’s Courage Award and share their stories: Tom Connors of Weatherly, Heidi Hooper of Tannersville, Dawn Ferrante Hart of Lake Wallenpaupack, Sierra Thomas of Summit Hill, and Jillian Datchko of Tamaqua.

Viewers can make pledges online at www.cancertelethon.org or by calling 800-883-2109 in memory of a lost friend or relative or in honor of someone fighting cancer. Pledges are also encouraged in support of the 38 live performances scheduled during the program’s 24 hours.
