Required immunizations

The Pennsylvania Department of Health lists the following immunizations as being required for school-age children.

Additional immunizations are required for seventh-grade and 12th-grade students.

Immunization requirements for all school-age students in Pennsylvania:

• Four doses of tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis (one dose on or after the fourth birthday), These are usually given as DTP, DTaP, DT or Td.

• Four doses of polio (fourth dose on or after fourth birthday and at least six months after previous dose given). A fourth dose is not necessary if the third dose was administered at age 4 years or older and at least six months after the previous dose.

• Two doses of measles, mumps, rubella, usually given as MMR.

• Three doses of hepatitis B

• Two doses of varicella (chickenpox) or evidence of immunity

Immunization requirements for seventh-grade students, in addition to all other required grade school immunizations, include:

• One dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap)

• One dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV).

Immunization requirements for 12th-grade students, in addition to all other required grade school immunizations, include:

• One dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV). If one dose was given at 16 years of age or older, then that will count as the dose for 12th grade.
