Junior Law and Leadership Academy planned

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop N is initiating a new program called the Troop N Junior Law and Leadership Academy. The program will be Aug. 23-27 at the Kingston Armory in Kingston. The program will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.

The program is geared to accommodate 30 students ages 16-19 that are currently enrolled in a high school/vocational law enforcement program or recently graduated and seeking a career as a law enforcement officer. Applicants will undergo an interview process and preference will be given to older applicants. The deadline to apply is Aug. 13.

The program is free to those accepted and will provide an opportunity to experience the process of becoming a cadet in a law enforcement academy. The program is also designed to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and students within this program while providing a firsthand look into the process of becoming a law enforcement officer.

The program has aspects of a “paramilitary” organization and individuals will be introduced to physical training such as running and marching. Individuals will receive instruction on traffic, criminal investigations and other police resources. Individual cadets will also learn time management, self-discipline and teamwork.

Any student interested in applying to the academy must contact: Master Trooper David L. Peters, Program Director, 570-459-3900, ext. 269, dapeters@pa.gov.
