Carbon drivers involved in turnpike crashes

Two Carbon County drivers were involved in crashes along the northeast extension of the turnpike recently, one a victim of a hit-and-run.

The hit-and-run occurred on July 11 at 10:01 a.m. in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Louis M. Hall, 65, of Jim Thorpe, was driving a 2013 Ford C-Max northbound near the Pocono exit and slowing down to exit the turnpike. A vehicle behind Hall struck the rear of his vehicle. Both vehicles were pulled over, with Hall speaking with the other driver. Hall suggested they pull to a safer spot on the off-ramp to exchange information. The other driver fled the scene northbound on the turnpike.

Hall was not injured.

The second crash occurred at 1:15 p.m., also on July 11, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Mason T. Neff, 21, of Lehighton, was driving a 2013 Ford Taurus northbound in rain when he lost control of the vehicle. The Ford struck the center concrete barrier and then the guardrail.

Neff was not injured. He was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.
