A Monroe County motorcyclist was killed in a crash on early Friday morning.
State police at Stroudsburg said the crash occurred at 3:49 a.m. along Marshalls Creek Road in Middle Smithfield Township.
Troopers said Gerard A. Hughes, 41, of East Stroudsburg, was operating a 2017 Harley Davidson bike northbound and approaching a slight right curve. Hughes traveled across the double yellow lines, continued across the southbound lane and onto the berm and into a wooded area. The bike traveled through the wooded area and made initial impact with a rock with the undercarriage of the bike. After initial impact, the bike went airborne, and tumbled multiple times. Hughes was thrown from the bike and came to rest next to trees near the shoulder of the southbound lane. The bike came to final rest after hitting a tree.
Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the coroner’s office.
