Walnutport Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:
• Hired Kyle Watson as a part-time police officer.
• Announced that the borough has received $220,000 in COVID Relief funding.
• Agreed to have borough grant coordinator Michael Wentz write up a grant to replace the fire police vehicle through Local Share Assessment funding, with the rest to come from COVID Relief funding.
• Announced that the borough will eventually accept credit cards for online garbage billing only from borough residents.
• Agreed to reimburse a business $2,928 for overpayment of the mercantile tax.
• Agreed to send police Sgt. Jason Nothstein and patrol officer Scott Ledo to schools for additional training. The cost to send Nothstein is $700, and the cost to send Ledo is $600.
• Announced anyone interested in an open seat on the borough’s planning commission may send their letter of interest to the borough office to the attention of borough Secretary-Treasurer Annette Lacko. Those who apply must be a registered voter and a resident of the borough.
• Agreed to host a fall e-recycling event Oct. 13 at borough hall.
• Approved the renewal of a trapping permit for Ronald Prutzman.
