Nesquehoning police log

Nesquehoning police Chief Sean Smith released the following incidents that took place in the borough over the last several weeks.

Traffic citations

• Nesquehoning police issued citations for a vehicle having an expired inspection, as well as a driver who was operating a vehicle without a driver’s license.

Nontraffic incidents

• Thomas Burns, 72, of Yard Street, Nesquehoning, was cited on June 25 for harassment for repeatedly taking photos of his neighbors and at one point, dropping his pants.

• Shawn Michael Werley, 31, of the unit block of East Railroad Street, Nesquehoning, was charged simple assault and harassment following an altercation on June 18.

Police were called to Werley’s residence at 6:43 p.m. after a woman called and said Werley had gotten physical with her. The victim had multiple marks consistent with a fight and said Werley had gotten aggressive and threatened to kill her. Werley said he hit her in self-defense.

Deplorable conditions

• Nesquehoning police executed a search warrant at a home in the unit block of East Mill Street regarding the health and safety of an 80-year-old man after unsafe living conditions were observed at the property.

The occupant was cited for sanitation, means of egress, structure unfit for human habitation, unlicensed and nonoperational vehicles, accumulation of rubbish, sidewalks and driveways not in good repair, sanitary drainage system not functioning properly and infestation of bugs and rodents.
