Summer hours

The Garden of Giving began its summer hours Tuesday. Volunteers are needed all summer long to help with mulching, weeding, lawn mowing, and the collecting and cleaning of the many dozens of eggs every week.

The Garden will begin summer hours of 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., from Tuesdays through Saturdays; closed on holidays.

Free dinner

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is having its free community dinner from 5 to 6 tonight.

It is still a drive-thru and pickup meal.

Chestnuthill meets

A reminder that the scheduled meeting of the Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors was changed to tonight at 7 p.m.

Eldred meets

The Eldred Township supervisors are slated to meet at 7 tonight at the municipal building in Kunkletown.

QOP men meeting

All men, 18 and older, of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, are invited to join the group at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, in the pavilion for the group’s monthly meeting.

Little League meets

The West End Little League will meet at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Park building in Brodheadsville. The meeting is open to all.

Milestone recognized

Effort UMCs altar flowers Sunday were in recognition of the 70th wedding anniversary of Allen and Phyllis Conklin.

Critter detective

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced Critter Detective Training at 10 a.m. Saturday with Roger Spotts leading the exploration.

The whole family is invited to be there for the fun training session looking for animal signs and learning their secrets.

Upon conclusion all participants will receive a certificate as an expert wildlife sign detective.

There is a cost although E.E. Center members are free.

For more information, call the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center at 570-629-3061, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Electronic collection

The Monroe County Waste Authority is holding an electronic collection event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Military Recycling Center, 1114 Military Road, Stroudsburg.

Items being received include: computers, monitors, TVs, networking devices, printers, power supplies, wires, cabling, hardware, peripherals.

It is free for Monroe County residents only. Proof of residency is required. There is a maximum of four devices per household.

Military Road is located in Stroud Township just off Schaffer School House Road.

Cleanup day

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, has its next cleanup day Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.

B&B at church

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, will be the site of a Girlfriends Rise & Shine breakfast and Bible study at 10 a.m. Saturday. One can sign up in the Connect Center.

Free craft time

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is offering a free Father’s Day craft from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, at the Ross Township Park on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.

Participating youngsters will color a Cinch sack backpack.

S.A.L. Clambake

The community is invited to participate in the Sixth Annual Sons of American Legion clambake, from 2 p.m. until dark Saturday at the American Legion Post 927, 646 Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert.

Choose from lams, hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, etc. There will be music, adult drinks, corn hole, horseshoes and more.

Children 12 and under are free.

Special service

Effort UMC will have its regular worship services at 8:30 and 11:15 a.m. Sunday but will also have a special service at 10 a.m. to celebrate the baptism of the Sabella children.

Those able to come to that service are invited to renew their own baptismal vows and be supportive of the family.
