The following activities have been planned for Tuscarora and Locust Lake state parks in Barnesville, Schuylkill County.
A Wolf Creek Falls hike is planned for Wednesdaystarting at 10:30 a.m. The falls are located in Saint Clair. Participants will meet at the north end of the Walmart parking lot off Route 61 in the Coal Creek Commerce Center. The hike is 7 miles and rated difficult. The hike is dog-friendly, but all pets must be leashed and get along well with people and other pets. Bring water and a lunch. Due to limited space, registration is required by contacting Robin Tracy at 570-467-2506. Shine only.OnJune 24 a hike to Peddler's Grave and the Greeny in Shenandoah Heights will be held. The grave is the site of the first recorded murder in Schuylkill County. Participants will meet at the Miner's Memorial in Shenandoah at 10:30 a.m. and carpool to the site. The hike is moderate and 5 miles in length. Bring a lunch. Pets are welcome but must be leashed at all times and get along with other pets and people. Shine only.Conservation volunteer Dave McSurdy will present a program onJune 24, in the Locust Lake program shelter, located near the camp store, at 5 p.m. He will explain how American Indians did not have a written language at the time, so they used other types of language to communicate. "Big Owl" McSurdy will talk about marks on rocks known as "petroglyphs" and what they were used for. Each program participant will make their own petroglyph to take home. Shine only.
