May 22, 1982 - Tamaqua’s Lori Lawson and Pleasant Valley’s Sheri Papscy both win gold medals in girls competition at the District 11 Track and Field Championships, held at Northern Lehigh. Lawson takes first in the Class 2A 1600, finishing the race in a time of 5:24.54. The Blue Raider athlete also earns a second place in the 3200. Papscy captures the 2A long jump, recording a distance of 16-8 1/4. The PV sophomore adds a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles. Also claiming a gold medal is Palmerton’s 3200 relay team of Teresa Wargo, Krissy Visnosky, Sheri Barbosa and Georgianne Messinger. The four combine to post a time of 10:09.82.
