Man who led police on high-speed chase pleads guilty in 2 DUI cases

Joshua Michael Dean, 25, of Albrightsville, pleaded in two pending cases on Monday in Carbon County court before Judge Steven R. Serfass. He was arrested on July 5, 2015, along Behrens Road in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.18 BAC. He also pleaded to driving under suspension - DUI related.

The second arrest occurred on Nov. 15, 2015, along Route 534 in Penn Forest Township after leading state police on a high-speed chase. Troopers attempted to stop Dean for a traffic violation along Route 903.He refused to stop and sped away with speeds reaching 100 mph. He was eventually stopped. Dean had a woman in the vehicle who told troopers she pleaded with Dean to stop.He also pleaded to a charge of recklessly endangering another person. He refused a blood test.Defense attorney Paul Levy, of the public defender's office, said Dean completed a seven-month inpatient program with the Salvation Army to address addiction problem.He also spent time in the county prison before being furloughed to enter the rehab program.On the first DUI count Serfass sentenced him to serve 10 days to 24 months in prison, pay a fine of $500, and one license suspension.On the second DUI he was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300 and another year suspension.On the driving under suspension he was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in jail, but must serve the entire 90 days, and a fine of $1,000.On the endangering count he was sentenced to serve one to one day less 24 months in prison. He must also render a total of 225 hours of community service.He was given credit for 245 days spent in the rehab program and prison and paroled on all charges, which run concurrently.
