Lehighton woman found asleep in bathroom pleads to drug charge

A Lehighton women pleaded to a drug charge in Carbon County court on Tuesday afternoon before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Heather Nittany Compton, 29, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. In exchange for the plea, charges of public drunkenness and disorderly conduct were dropped.Compton was arrested on Aug. 1, 2016, when Palmerton police were called to the Dunkin' Donuts shop on Delaware Avenue to a report of a female asleep on the floor of the women's bathroom.Police found Compton had left the shop. She was located in the parking area of the Rite Aid pharmacy.She admitted ingesting heroin before the incident.Matika noted that Compton has a long criminal record dating back to when she was 18.Matika told her she had to address her drug addiction problem. "The drugs you are using now are going to kill you," he told her.Compton is currently an inmate in the Northampton County prison on other charges.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance imposed for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service when released from prison.
