Tick time

According to information in the Monroe County Seniors’ Express Times, warmer weather and being outside more may cause one to be more exposed to ticks.

The Department of Health has recommendations on how to remove any ticks and how to treat the site after removing them.

There is a tick-testing site at ESU’s Dr. Jane Huffman Wildlife Institute, part of the ESU Innovation Center. The facility is capable of testing for 17 different tick-borne pathogens, which are each associated with one or more species of tick. The facility operates during normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday through COVID-19.

For more information call 570-422-7892 or email wildlifedna@esu.edu.

A tick drop box is available for tick submissions outside of the Innovation Center of ESU.
