Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown) holds two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 9 a.m. is a traditional service and 10:30 a.m. is a contemporary service. This will be the last month with these times of worship. Starting in June will be a new expanded schedule: 8:30 a.m. will be a contemporary service, 9:45 a.m. Sunday school, and 11 a.m. a traditional service. They have four options of worship: In the sanctuary, in Leah’s Room (masks required), in the parking lot (FM 104.3), or Faith Alive Facebook Live.

Upcoming events are:

May 27 at 2 p.m. is adult Bible study. All are welcome to join the group.

May 14 at 7 p.m. is a hospitality committee meeting

May 16 at 6 p.m. is a youth group meeting. All youth 12 years to 12th grade are welcome to attend

May 23 is Pentecost Sunday

The May Mission of the Month is Bowman Park Camp. “A Small Camp With a Big God.” It is a nondenominational Christian camp located in Bowmanstown. They have served the community since 1891 and have historical connections to the United Methodist Church. Look on their website www.bowmanparkcamp.com for updates and camp schedules.

JUCC

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville) will hold Sunday worship service at 10:30 a.m. There will be a short meeting following the service to plan the events for the church picnic scheduled for Aug. 14. If you are able to donate toward the picnic raffle, please see Wendy Hoppel. She would like to have the list of donations by June 9.

Weather permitting, Sunday services will be held in the church grove and will continue that way until further notice. Bring your lawn chairs, dress comfortably, and sit in family units while remaining socially distant. You can also remain in your vehicle and park in the grove so you can see the bandstand and listen on 95.5 FM. Services can also be seen on Facebook live and the church website.

Supply Pastor Don Quayle will lead the worship.

Looking ahead there will be a two-day Flea Market June 11 and 12.

New library hours

There will be new hours at the Palmerton Area Library beginning this week. Monday through Wednesday hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday and Friday hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Starting this week you do not need to make an appointment for browsing or for the basement book sale. Come in at any time. There is a special bag sale for the basement sale for the month of May. You may fill a plastic bag with books, puzzles and DVDs for $2 and fill a bag with VHS tapes for $1.

Computer appointments are still required. Please call 610-826-3424 to schedule. Masks are required in all areas of the library.

Curbside service will continue. Call the library to schedule a pickup time.

There are thank-yous and new faces at the library. Library Director Christine DeSousa, the board of directors and the staff would like to thank Mata Curran for her years of dedication to the library as a board member. They would like to welcome Marion Hoffner as the newest board member and look forward to working with her.

They would also like to thank Marshelle George, the former Saturday library assistant for her service. Gail Cichello has joined the team as a new Saturday library assistant. Stop by and welcome her.

Breakfast

An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Palmerton. Menu items include eggs to order, potatoes, pancakes, SOS, toast, cereal, hash, ham, bacon, sausage, OJ, coffee, tea and milk. Masks must be worn upon entering and when moving about the building.

Chicken dinner

The Bowmanstown-Parryville Lions Club will be holding a pickup chicken dinner on June 5, from 3 to 6 p.m. This is takeout only and all sales must be preordered. The cost includes half a roasted chicken, baked potato, coleslaw and dessert.

Pickup at Oliver Solt Park (Lime Street - adjacent to the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company). To order tickets call 610-597-1875 (if no answer, leave a message) or ask any Bowmanstown-Parryville Lions Club member.

Palmerton Park Concerts

The list of Sunday in the Park Concerts are as follows. If there are any changes throughout the summer I will note them in this column. All concerts are from 7-8:30 p.m., unless noted. June 13, The Palmerton Band; July 4, the Palmerton Band; July 11, Little Brass Band of the Lehigh Valley; July 18, Inch & the Echoes; July 25, The Steel Creek Band; Aug. 8, The Pennsylvania Villagers (6:30-8 p.m.); and Aug. 22- The Palmerton Band (6:30-8 p.m.).

Palmerton Borough

The voting location for residents who live in the middle and west districts of Palmerton Borough has changed. Last year, voting took place at the Palmerton Municipal Fire Company at Fifth and Lehigh Ave. This year these two districts will vote at the Palmerton Borough Garage, located at 402 Third St. Residents in the east district will continue voting at the Palmerton Ambulance Building. Primary election day is May 18.

BWC

Bethany Wesleyan Church, 457 Delaware Ave. holds Sunday worship services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. If you haven’t had a chance to check out their NextGen area, stop by for the 10:30 a.m. service. All are invited.
