Agnes T. McCartney, executive director of the Carbon County Tourist Promotion Agency, has announced a Humanitarian Award will be presented by the agency on a monthly basis, going to people in the county who extend a “helping hand” in support of tourism.

The first “You’ve Got a Friend in Carbon County” award went today to Msgr. Joseph Dooley, pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.

Father Dooley was commended by Mrs. McCartney for coming to the rescue of 22 young people from the Lancaster area who arrived in the county seat borough to spend the weekend here but were “out in the cold” due to inclement weather. The priest “put them up” in the parish rectory.
