Franklin township firefighters Wednesday afternoon were challenged to clean up an oil spill on Route 209 at the intersection with 248.

At 2 p.m. a southbound tractor trailer was sitting in the left turn lane of Route 209 at the traffic light when it experienced transmission problems.

A large amount of oil spilled out onto the roadway. After the rig was towed from the scene firemen used absorbent materials to contain the oil. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation workers assisted at the scene.
